Delighted to have had my piece 'Separation' selected by the Society For Embroidered Work to be in their show " Surface and Depth" at this years Rome Art Week along with textile artists from around the world.
”Surface and Depth showcases a “new wave” of artists who use the thread as if it were painting or a real sculpture. The “old” idea of embroidery as “decoration” and “craftsmanship” is overturned, revisited and updated by these extraordinary artists who dedicate their research to important social, scientific and environmental issues, transmitting a much deeper meaning to embroidery.” https://www.artemorbida.com/?lang=en
I feel this piece has come from the recent losses of important people in my life through cancer. It's a busy piece, many layers of painted fabrics, stitched work, lots of colour and a bit of confusion but I like to think hope too.
